Emotional and Behavioural Assessment
Assessment may be required when a child is presenting with emotional or behavioural difficulties in order to understand the child better. This can inform therapeutic needs as well as illuminate the underlying contributing causes to emotional and behavioural challenges and how they may impact on other areas of the child’s development.
This also helps in delineating, qualifying, and quantifying emotional or behavioural difficulties in order to better understand the adolescent’s current presentation and to inform therapeutic needs and treatment plans as well as track progress.
Assessment of Neurodevelopmental Conditions
Identification of social and communication disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorders and other neurodevelopmental conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, among other presentations of atypical or neurodiverse development in children and adolescents. A range of psychometric measures and qualitative tools are applied. Specific Learning Disorders can be identified through comprehensive psycho-educational assessment.
Psycho-educational Assessment
This involves standardise psychometric assessment of intellectual and academic functioning aimed at identifying any barriers to learning, intellectual and academic strengths and weaknesses to inform educational and learning needs.
IEB, GED, SACAI, DBE Accommodation application assessments
These regulatory educational bodies have varying prescribed requirements for assessment for applications for potential accommodations of concessions in examinations in the High School or College Phase for learners who present with barriers to learning.
